Sell us your used material

Project finished, fleet being retired, or a yard full of steel you are paying to store? We are a standing buyer of used shuttering and scaffolding, by the lot.

Why sell to RTL

Used steel is worth more to us than to a scrap dealer

A scrap buyer prices your scaffold by the kilo. We price it by what it can still do — a standard with sound cups and a straight tube goes back into the hire fleet, not into a furnace, and it is worth considerably more in that condition. The difference on a full project's worth of material is not small.

  • Valued as equipment, not as scrap, wherever the material is still serviceable.
  • Whole lots taken — we do not cherry-pick the good pieces and leave you the rest.
  • Lifting arranged, so you are not organising trucks for material you have finished with.
  • Offset against a purchase if you are re-kitting at the same time.
  • Storage stops costing you from the day it leaves the yard.

What we buy

If it is on our catalogue, we are interested

Cuplock standards & ledgers

Any size from 0.5 m to 3.0 m, and ledgers across the bay range.

Props, jacks & heads

Adjustable props, base jacks, U jacks — hollow or solid stem.

Shuttering plate & channel

Welded or riveted plate in all four catalogue sizes, plus channel.

Planks, challi, tube & couplers

Steel planks, MS challi, MS pipe, spigots, fixed and swivel couplers.

Bent, seized or partly damaged material is still worth showing us. Some of it straightens, some of it is worth the steel — either way you will get a straight answer on which.

How selling works

Four steps, usually inside a week

Send the list

Item, size and rough count, with a few photos of the stack. A phone call works too.

We value it

Priced on condition and quantity, with the reasoning shown, not a single lump figure.

Inspection

We look at it where it stands, or at a sample lot if the material is spread across sites.

Lifted & paid

We arrange the transport, count it off, and settle on the agreed terms.

What affects the valuation

Four things, in roughly this order of importance:

  • Condition of the working parts. On standards it is the cups; on ledgers the blades; on jacks and props the thread. A clean thread is worth more than clean paint.
  • Straightness. Bent tube can often be pressed back; kinked tube cannot.
  • Quantity and mix. A matched set of standards, ledgers and jacks is worth more than the same tonnage in odd sizes, because it can go straight back out on hire.
  • Where it is. Material we can lift in one trip costs less to collect, and that shows up in the offer.
